About Lisa

Lisa Groen, founder

I’m a published author, but really just a writer like you. I write both nonfiction and fiction. I’m also an editor and writing coach.

I often say that I did not choose the work of assisting other writers, but that the work chose me. Since publishing The Mother’s Book of Well-Being
(Conari Press, 2003) many aspiring authors have contacted me to read and comment on their manuscripts. I’ve worked primarily with nonfiction writers, most of whom did not realize that nonfiction books are sold by proposal. I often wished they’d come to me before writing a full manuscript, to save them time and sometimes heartache when forced to put 200+ pages on the back burner, only to craft a one-page query letter and ten to fifteen-page book proposal.

I have an MFA in writing degree from Spalding University. Though my graduate degree qualifies me to instruct writing on the college level, I prefer to work one-on-one with writers of all different ages and backgrounds.

In addition to books, my writing has appeared in newspapers, popular and literary magazines, and on public radio. If you’d like to learn more about my recent and upcoming published work, check out my author website

When I’m not parenting two school-age children, writing, reading, or assisting other writers, I can be found in a yoga studio with a group of dedicated women and men whose strength, balance, and flexibility inspire me. This year, I’m obsessed with mastering arm balances. My favorite is Astavakrasana, or Eight Angle Pose.

I’m here for you. If you’re an aspiring author struggling to find your feet in the publishing world, please contact me. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about my guide or other services.
